ASPCA:
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - Help fight animal cruelty.
The Humane Society of the United States: Great site, and huge amount of info on puppy mills.
PetFinder: Search for all kinds of pets nationwide.  Also has a list of shelters by US state.
Dog Breed Info Center: Find info on any dog breed.  Features a search and breed-matching.
Help Puppies: PETA's website discussing puppy mills and other reasons to adopt from an animal shelter.
Companion Animal Protection Society: The only national animal welfare organization dedicated to protecting companion animals.

Animal Welfare League:
Helps prevent cruelty to animals and homes for abandoned animals in Chicagoland.
Anti-Cruelty Society: Adopts out animals and helps prevent animal cruelty. Also offers great local programs.
City of Chicago Animal Care and Control: The official site of Chicago Animal Care and Control.  Links to Chicago-based animal care practices and events, animal care articles and tips, licensing info and more.

Puppymill Rescue: Helps rescue puppy mill dogs and adopt them to their forever homes.
Hearts United for Animals: An animal welfare organization dedicated to end animal suffering.
Rogers Rescues: A virtual organization that adopts animals through PetFinder. 
They're All Keepers: An organization that concentrates on the Havanese breed, with great info on the site.
Doggie Fun: "Where doggies come for fun!" - A fun and informational site about dogs.
Animals Right to Life Website: Huge source of information regarding animals and their rights.
CritterHaven: A great place for info on mills and other animal-abuse-related stuff.
Pawprints and Purrs: An organization dedicated to helping animals and educating the public about animal abuse.
People Against Puppy Mills: an Ohio-based organization that educates people about Petland (a pet store that sells puppies) and puppy mills.
Annie's Angels: An Illinois-based rescue organization that fights puppy mills as well.  Named after Annie, a pet-store pup whose life was shorter than necessary.
Action Against Puppy Mills (AAPM): Canada-based (Ontario) organization dedicated to ending mills in Canada.
Stop Wizard of Claws: A Florida-based organization that fights one specific pet store chain.  Great info.
